Staying private as a new creator: a practical checklist

Updated · LuxOnly Creators

Short answer: nobody can promise you total anonymity, but you can make it really hard for anyone to find you. Keep your creator identity separate from your personal life (name, email, number and socials), check every photo before it goes up, and turn on geoblocking knowing what it can't do. Then have a plan ready in case someone recognizes you.

What can privacy protect, and what can't it?

Being scared that someone you know will find out is completely normal. So let's be clear about what's possible:

  • You can: stop apps from suggesting you to your contacts, keep your photos from giving away where you live, and keep your legal name off anything public.
  • You can't: fully control who sees your content. Someone can take a screenshot, use a VPN, or recognize your face.

We're talking about privacy as safety, meaning protecting your personal life. The platform still has to know who you are (it verifies your ID and that you're 18+), and your tax obligations don't go away.

How do I separate my real identity from my creator one?

  1. A stage name that doesn't resemble your name, last name, or any nickname your family uses.
  2. A new email just for this, with no real name in the address or profile.
  3. A separate phone number for your creator socials if you can, so you don't get suggested to people who have your personal number.
  4. Unique passwords and two-factor authentication on everything.
  5. A second phone, or at least a separate browser profile, so sessions and notifications never mix.

How do I stop socials from suggesting me to people I know?

  • Don't sync your contacts on creator accounts, and revoke contact access if you already granted it.
  • Turn off "suggest your account to others" or similar settings, wherever the app offers them.
  • Watch your usernames: nothing close to your personal handles.
  • Don't follow people from your real life on your creator account, or vice versa.
  • Think twice before installing apps that read contacts on the phone you use for your creator number.

What can my photos and videos give away?

  • Backgrounds: windows with a recognizable view, family photos, mail or packages with your address, work uniforms or logos.
  • Reflections: mirrors, glasses, screens and even faucets can show more than you think.
  • Unique features: tattoos, birthmarks or jewelry people know you for. Cover them or keep them out of frame.
  • Metadata: some photos store your location. Turn off location in your camera settings and, if in doubt, export or screenshot before uploading.
  • Your voice and catchphrases, if people in your life might watch your videos.

If you'd rather we handle it: at LuxOnly our team runs the accounts, chat and promo, and you focus on creating. Your accounts and bank stay in your name. See if you're a fit, it takes a minute.

Is blocking my country enough?

Blocking your country (and any others you choose) is one of the first things to do. OnlyFans and Fansly both let you block by location in your settings. Depending on where you are, you may see options beyond country level, so check exactly what your account offers. But geoblocking has limits:

  • It works off the viewer's connection location, so someone using a VPN can get around it.
  • It doesn't cover what you post on other platforms for promo, which is usually visible worldwide.
  • It won't stop someone who already knows you from recognizing you if they come across your content.

So treat geoblocking as one layer, not the whole plan.

What about money? Will it show up on my bank statement?

Payouts go to an account in your name, and that's how it should be. Never use someone else's account. Think about who can see your statements or your banking app, and if you share an account with someone, consider opening one just for this. Keep your records too, because you'll need them at tax time.

What do I do if someone recognizes me?

  1. Don't reply in the heat of the moment, and never pay someone who threatens you.
  2. Save evidence: dated screenshots, links and usernames.
  3. Block and report them on the platform and wherever they messaged you.
  4. Tighten your settings: expand your geoblocking and figure out which clue they likely used.
  5. If they've shared your content, follow the takedown steps, and if there are threats, report them to the police.

How do we handle this at LuxOnly?

When we set up your account, we use a checklist like this one: a stage name, a persona with her own backstory, and blocking your country plus any others you choose. One honest note: at LuxOnly we always work with face, so your privacy relies on these layers, not on hiding who you are in photos.

Frequently asked questions

Can an OnlyFans account be traced back to my real name?

Your legal name isn't shown on your public profile. The platform knows it because it verifies you. What usually gives creators away are clues they leave themselves: similar usernames, recognizable backgrounds, or socials suggesting them to their contacts.

Does geoblocking stop people in my country from seeing me?

It cuts the odds a lot, but it isn't foolproof. Someone using a VPN can get around it, and it doesn't protect what you post on other platforms. Always turn it on, but use it alongside the rest of this checklist.

Can I start without showing my face?

On the platforms, yes, plenty of creators work faceless. At LuxOnly, though, we always work with face, and we tell you that upfront so you can decide.

To create on these platforms you must be 18 or older and verify your identity with the platform.
