How to make money on OnlyFans, honestly: where it comes from and what you control
Updated · LuxOnly Creators
Here's the honest answer: money on OnlyFans comes from four places: subscriptions, pay-per-view, tips and paid messages. OnlyFans keeps 20% of each fan payment. Nobody can tell you how much you'll make, but you do control five things: how many people find you, how many subscribe, how many stay, how much they buy and how long you can keep it up. If you already have subscribers and the money isn't there, our guide to OnlyFans not making money is the one you want.
Where does the money on OnlyFans actually come from?
OnlyFans calls every paid interaction with a fan a "Creator Interaction" in its Terms of Service: subscriptions, pay-per-view content and other payments, including direct messages. In practice, that's four income streams:
| Income stream | How it works | What it depends on | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subscriptions | A monthly price for access to your feed. Subscriptions renew automatically unless the fan cancels | New fans finding you, and old ones renewing | A feed that goes quiet loses renewals |
| Pay-per-view (PPV) | Locked posts or messages a fan pays to open | What you offer and how you price it | Sending the same thing to everyone, all the time |
| Tips | Fans pay extra on a post or in chat | The relationship and how fans feel about your page | Asking for tips in a way that feels pushy |
| Paid messages and customs | Content made for one fan, agreed in chat | Time in the inbox and clear limits | Saying yes to things outside your limits |
For most pages, the subscription alone isn't the whole picture. That's not a secret trick, it's just where the four streams add up.
What comes off before the money reaches you?
Under its Terms, OnlyFans' fee is 20% of the total fan payment, taken from each payment. The math is simple: if a fan pays 10 USD, 8 USD goes to your balance and 2 USD to the platform.
A few other things can come off later, all from the same Terms: currency conversion fees if your payout isn't in USD, whatever your own bank charges for international transfers, and the creator's share of any payment a fan gets refunded or charges back. You also need to reach the minimum payout amount before you can withdraw.
So when you look at your numbers, look at what lands in your account, not at the prices on your page.
How much do OnlyFans creators make? What nobody can promise you
There's no number that applies to you, and anyone honest will say the same. Two creators with the same price can end up miles apart depending on traffic, consistency and how they handle their inbox.
Averages don't help either: a small share of accounts brings in a big share of the money, so the "average creator" doesn't really exist, and a figure you saw in a viral post is someone else's story, not a forecast. If a course, a coach or an agency promises you a monthly figure, that's your signal to slow down. We don't do it either.
What you can know is your own math: what fans pay, minus the 20% the platform keeps, minus your bank's fees. For the first weeks specifically, see how to start an OnlyFans account.
What would $100 a day on OnlyFans actually take?
Just arithmetic, with numbers you'd fill in yourself, not a promise. For 100 USD a day to reach your balance, fans have to pay 125 USD a day, because OnlyFans keeps 20%. Over a month, that's 3,750 USD in fan payments. Then ask: with my prices, how many renewals, PPV opens and tips is that? Seeing it written down is usually the most honest reality check there is.
What are the five things you actually control?
- Reach: how many people see your stage name each week, outside OnlyFans. No reach, no money. This is where a marketing strategy comes in.
- Conversion: how many of those visitors subscribe. Your profile, bio and first posts do this work.
- Retention: how many renew. Regular posting and a welcome that makes people feel seen keep them around.
- Sales: PPV, customs and tips. Clear menus and prices you've thought through. Our pricing guide has a method and a template.
- Stamina: the pace you can keep. A page that runs for a year beats one that burns out in a month.
When something's off, fix one lever at a time, so you know what made the difference.
Do you have to promote to make money on OnlyFans?
Yes, almost always. OnlyFans says in its Terms that it may use recommender systems to show accounts to users, but you can't count on that to bring you fans from zero. Most of your audience will come from places you show up yourself, so promotion isn't optional. It just has to be done inside each platform's rules: our guide to promoting without getting banned links them all.
Can you make money with just pictures, or without your face?
Some creators do. Photos can sell well as PPV and in bundles, and you can build a page without showing your face. Both take more planning, though: without your face, people need another reason to recognize you. We go deep on that in faceless OnlyFans.
What looks like OnlyFans money but is a scam?
- Buying an account "with fans already on it." OnlyFans' Terms say you can't transfer your rights under the agreement, and each creator verifies with her own ID.
- Courses that promise you a set monthly figure. If they could really know your number, they wouldn't need to sell you a course.
- Paying up front for "promo packages," "verification help" or a spot in an agency.
- Fans who want to pay you outside the platform. That's where chargebacks, scams and bans come from.

Frequently asked questions
How do beginners make money on OnlyFans?
Usually slowly at first: a small base of content, one or two promo platforms, a clear profile and an inbox they answer. Most beginners earn more once subscribers renew and start buying PPV, not in the first weeks.
Where does OnlyFans money come from?
From fans: subscriptions, pay-per-view, tips and paid messages. OnlyFans keeps 20% of each fan payment under its Terms, and the rest goes to the creator's balance, before any currency conversion or bank fees.
Do OnlyFans creators make good money?
Some do, many don't, and averages hide that. Treat any income figure you see online as someone else's story, not a forecast for you. What you can do is work on the five levers and track your own numbers weekly.
To create on these platforms you must be 18 or older and verify your identity with the platform.
